One of the most common questions that guests ask us is; do you join races? And the answer is YES, we do. Not only is it great fun for us but also for the dogs, and it brings in a continuous focus on nutrition, top training, breeding on the very best etc Here is a presentation og Team Sjusjøen Husky!

Even though we join some long distanece races our tour program for guests will still be running as normal all winter. If you book a tour with us you might actually have the best racing dogs in your team, especially on the 30km tours.

Team Sjusjøen Husky consists of: Leif Tore Lie, Jørgine Massa Vasstrand, Sebastian Plur Nilssen and Morten Sundli.

Races planned coming season 24/25: Gausdal Maraton and Femundløpet.

Leif Tore, Femundløpet 2020

In this film from Leif Tores first time in the Femund Race you can really feel the excitement not only on the musher but also the dogs. Production: Shan Ytterland

The owner and manager of Sjusjøen Husky Tours startet his mushing career in Gausdal Maraton with a team of pure Alaskan Malamutes. Since establishment of Sjusjøen Husky Tours in 2014 he has been joining two races per winter combining with running the business, and from then with Alaska Huskies. His best result is 3rd place in Gausdal Maraton 200km.

For the coming winter 24/25 he will for the 4th time be joining Gausdal Maraton 300 km and as the two past years he will be Jørgine`s handler on the Femund Race.

Jørgine has became a true mushing enthusiast. Normally she is a professional influencer for people on training/workout but already after her first tour on the sled winter 2020 she knew that training sled dogs would from that day be influencing her life a lot. Leif Tore was more than happy to take her under his wings teaching her how to do this!

After giving birth to her fourth child in 2022 she has now joined Gausdal Maraton twice and completed, and the Femund race also twice and completed the second time in 2024 450km! Finishing a raca like this is an extraordinary achievement. It goes on for several days, hardly any sleep as you spend much of the resting time taking care of the dogs. In 2024 it was also very cold, minus 40 most of the time.

For the coming season the plan is again Gausdal Maraton 300km and Femund 450km.

Winter 22/23 Norwegian TV2 followed Jørgine and Leif Tore on the way for her to be a competing musher. They made 5 episodes following them on many ups and downs, learning by doing and pep talks. The episodes are still available on TV2 play.

Sebastian Plur Nilssen

Started mushing after getting his first husky in 1999. After that Sebastian has been joining many long tours and expeditions as well as participating in several races; Gausdal Marathon x 4, Hallingen x2, Mush Synnfjell x3, Femund 600 x3, Femund 400 x1, Finnmark 500 x1, Finnmark 1000/1200 x3.
