Sjusjøen Husky Tours was formed in 2014 by Leif Tore and Ida, and their team of very talented people and dogs are growing rapidly. Today we have a total of 90 alaska huskies. They all live in Åsmarka about 20 minutes away from Sjusjøen, where all the dogs also have their own little houses.
Leif Tore Lie
Leif Tore was born in Øyer in Gudbransdalen and grew up with dogs since was a little child. He is educated and has experience as an industrial mechanic, specialised in plate/welding/steel structure and has been running his own company where he eventually included dog sledding. He got his first alaskan malamute about 10 years ago, and as his interest for dog sledding grew he eventually got more. He participated in the Gausdal Marathon 100km in 2013, and 208km distance in 2014, where he was the first and only to ever start with sled consisting of pure Alaskan Malamutes. In 2015 he was the club champion in the Lillehammer Race.
Leif Tore was originally helping out with the dog sledding at Sjusjøen, until he took over in 2014 along with Ida Nilseng.
In October 2015 a documentary was made about Leif Tore, which you can check out here. (English subtitles)
Ida Nilseng grew up in Lillahammer, with a degree in Business & Management with a lot of experience in tourism marketing. She is the one taking care of all the bookings, and the one you will likely be in touch with if you decide to come visit us! Recently she quit her other job and is now working full time with Sjusjøen Husky Tours, making sure we can let as many people possible get to try a tour with our lovely dogs.
She is normally also to be found up in the mountains welcoming you as you get there, making sure everything is running as it should. If you have any questions about anything, do not hesitate to ask her!
Ida has also grown up with dogs, currently has two golden retrievers and two Icelandic horses which is her passion outside of working hours.
Lona is the real boss of Sjusjøen Husky Tours. You will find her in the cabin in Sjusjøen, likely close to the campfire, making sure everyone are served and happy. She will not hesitate you help you should you have trouble finishing your food, although she is currently on a diet having gained a little too much weight over summer..
And all of our dogS:
A total of 90 dogs, some of them puppies. All of them with their own little houses in Åsmarka. They are very well trained, some of them have been participating in various races for dog sledders that we are sponsoring. Running and training a lot throughout the year is what they love more than anything and makes them incredibly happy. And they are all very sociable and love to be cuddled with, so do not hesitate to say hi if you come visit us!
